Moldy Fridge Problems

Moldy Fridge Problems

You shuffle back into the house after a successful trip to the grocery store, arms laden with grocery bags. You set the bags down onto the counter, turn to open the fridge, and are met with a musty odor. Mold… Now, you’re faced with a decision. Do you shrug it off and put the groceries away anyway, or do you break down and get to scrubbing?

We know what the easiest answer is, but it’s not the right one. It’s time to bust out the gloves and cleaning solution.

Don’t put fresh food into a moldy fridge. Mold spreads through airborne spores, so brand-new food can get covered in mold quickly if put in a dirty fridge. Instead of using hard chemical cleaners in the fridge, you can put together a simple homemade remedy to blast the mold away!

Ingredients

  • 1 tablespoon baking soda
  • 1 quart of water

All you have to do to make this cleaner is mix in a tablespoon of baking soda into a quart of water and use it to clean the fridge! Once all the mold has been scrubbed away, rinse the surface with plain water, and you’re good to go!

And here’s a pro tip to help prevent mold growth in the future: Don’t stuff your fridge! A packed fridge makes it hard for air to circulate, which can make the inside of the fridge warm enough for mold to grow and thrive!
