Float Like a Butterfly, Sting Like a…Mosquito?

Let’s face it, there are a lot of bad things that come along with the summer, like the heat and sunburns. The worst though is all the bugs. At the start of spring, all those little monsters that were hiding away from the cold started crawling back into the land of the living, and by summer they’re everywhere. By far, one of the worst bugs is the mosquito.

Besides the fact they carry some deadly diseases, mosquitos are troublesome. Even if you’re inside reading this, safely tucked away from any of those little pests, I bet you can almost hear that shrill buzzing in your ear. We’ve all experienced the maddening itch of a mosquito bite, and many of us have tried some weird things to try to get it to stop. One of the strangest— but surprisingly effective— things that take the itch right out of those bites is honey.

Yes. You read that right. Honey.

Put a little dab on the bite, maybe put a little in your tea to give it some more sweetness, and go on your way!

So, what does honey do for mosquito bites?

Honey, especially in its pure, raw form is full of enzymes, antioxidants, and minerals. It has many antibacterial and anti-inflammatory properties that make it useful in soothing sore throats, but those properties also help in reducing swelling around mosquito bites and helps soothe the area. It also can help keep the bite from getting infected if you did just so happen to scratch it a little too hard. Besides its natural healing properties being useful, having a sticky spot of honey over a bite can also help deter you from itching the spot to keep from making a mess!

If you do use honey to treat your mosquito bites, try not to go outside right after. Wouldn’t want to attract flies, would we? Hope this tip was helpful and check back with us for more hacks and tips!
